From Martin, our church warden
I have decided to take on the task of organising and taking part in a charity walk that is open to anyone to join in with. You can do parts of the walk, all of the walk or just come and support us by bringing supplies along as we go. This walk is going to take us around the perimeter of the Wirral Peninsular which is exciting, beautiful and also rather scary as it is a total of 35 miles (unless we get lost on route). It is in aid of raising money for St John the Baptist Church PCC charity in Great Meols so we can re-build our wall that has withstood nearly 110 years of weathering from the elements so is in need of some real restoration. This is going to cost a total of £63,000.
As a Church Warden I was talking to members of the church that thought walking around the perimeter of our church boundaries would be the best thing until I went to be sworn in as a church warden. It was here that I was asked how far I was going to walk and before I knew it I said ‘around the whole of Wirral’.
After telling my wife Natalie what I had said she thought it was a very mad idea but very achievable over two days so said she would do it with me…..little did she know that I was planning to do it in one!!! Anyway, once she found out she agreed that she had committed to the walk and would indeed join me the whole way around.
The different stages that Natalie and I have planned are:
- St Johns to Morrisons West Kirby – 2.6 miles 51 mins
- Morrisons West Kirby to Parkgate – 7.3 miles 2h 22mins STOPPING STATION
- Parkgate to Hooton Station – 5.2 miles 1hour 42mins
- Hooton to Port Sunlight – 5.2 miles 1hour 42mins STOPPING STATION
- Port Sunlight to Woodside Ferry 3.6 miles 1hour 12mins
- Woodside Ferry to New Brighton 3.9 miles 1hour 18mins STOPPING STATION
- New Brighton to St Johns 6.2 miles 2hours 2mins
I hope that people can sponsor me, my wife and anyone else that is going to join us on the walk. You can either follow the link to my Just Giving page for this event:
